Part of a larger body of work, originally conceived at the Academia in Venice and continued in Edinburgh College of Art, Leeds City Art Gallery and York Library, the erosion of institutional buildings is presented in these photographs both as a physical reality and as metaphorically suggestive of the premises on which the institutions operate. Papering over the cracks and crevices of institutional buildings in an attempt to hide their erosion actually serves to highlight the institutions’ efforts to disguise their crumbling identity by rudimentary and temporary conservation techniques.
